Lajos Geenen is a conceptual photographer who captures carefully constructed tableaux, creating meaning out of the construction of his staged settings. The resulting allegories conflict with photography's assumed veracity. His subjects and places are neither completely realistic nor completely artificial, a unique balance that requires the viewer to inspect the images and instill their own sense of meaning. Geenen, born in The Netherlands, studied photography and film both at The School of the Museum of Fine Arts and at the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston, earning him a Fulbright. His work has been shown in galleries in Amsterdam, Berlin, Boston, Brussels, Miami, Paris, Seoul, Zurich, and New York City, where he currently resides.
